Have you been overeating? Did you promise to start the New Year on the right foot? Have you been saying that you need to clean up your diet and start eating better? Do you want to lose “holiday” pounds? Have you been feeling more tired than usual? Do your joints ache?
If so, a good way to start the New Year is to do a metabolic detoxification program.
When we think about being clean, we do not normally think about our insides, but they can get very dirty with a buildup of toxins due to the air, our food, and our water. In 1998, the EPA found that, “35% of the food that it tested contained residues of pesticides and 53% of the pesticides were carcinogens found in such foods as apples and potatoes”. Our drinking water also contains pesticides. The EPA also reported that in 2000, “4 billion pounds of chemicals were released into the ground and 260 pounds of chemicals were released into the lakes and rivers”.
Our bodies are designed to eliminate these toxins, but the problem is that there are just too many for the liver (the primary organ of detoxification) to handle. We have several detoxification systems. All of these systems require particular vitamins and minerals to work optimally. Our bodies can handle some of toxins but become overloaded because of constant exposure to toxins every day.
When we take in more than we can handle, our liver becomes overwhelmed, which is when we become ill. Changes happen first at the cellular level, which we don’t recognize at first, but when enough cellular damage has occurred, organs become affected. We are much like the cup that overflows when too much is added.
There are different types of detoxification programs. A metabolic detox is one that you should consult your physician about in order to do it safely. Kidney and liver function should be checked before you begin. To prepare for a detox, you will need to eliminate as many of the toxins that we are exposed to on a daily basis. Next, you must eliminate inflammatory foods (refer to the photo below). Additionally, you need to avoid toxic cleaning agents and cosmetics that have substances that disrupt our systems.
Most detoxification programs run for 6, 10, or 28 days. You are encouraged to eat organic foods and follow the program outlined in the guide above. You will take powders and potions all designed to get your organs of elimination moving, and get them to dump their junk, so to say.
Liver function can be supported by a number of foods. These foods help your liver to do its job:
- Garlic
- Grapefruit
- Beets and Carrots
- Green tea
- Green leafy vegetables
- Avocados
- Apples
- Olive Oil
- Cruciferous Vegetables
- Lemons and Limes
- Walnuts
- Cabbage
- Turmeric
Do you want to feel cleaner, lighter, healthier, and more energetic? Perhaps a metabolic detoxification program is the right thing for you to do RIGHT NOW!
